Where Am I Going to College Dad!?
Cornell University may not be a great fit for all students, but regularly boasts strong rankings, and therefore is alluring to students (and parents.) I am speaking to you dad. And mom- and grandma. I hear that your son is applying to college this year? A valedictorian!? With a GPA north of 5, tons of AP’s, captain and president oh my! And, he's been working on his college list? Princeton and Yale, nice! And Michigan- I love Ann Arbor. And, Boston College, UCLA and USC just to make extra sure. The above is a edited version of a conversation that I had with an acquaintance last at a party last weekend. The event that I attended happened to be a benefit for a local college scholarship foundation focused on first generation and low income (FGLI) students, so the discussion was at least topical. (The gentleman with whom I was speaking was a donor- not a scholarship candidate.) Cocktail party chatter about kids and college is not new, nor particularly interesting. But, la
